What are some of the risk factors for spinal dysfunctions?

The #1 response is older women because their bones weaken due to:

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency Ā
  • Osteoporosis
  • Frequent falls
  • Lack of exercise
  • Spinal degeneration

However, a greater number of men suffer spinal cord dysfunction as a result of:

  • Motor vehicle injury (44 percent)
  • Acts of violence (24 percent)
  • Falls (22 percent)
  • Sports (8 percent)
    • Other (2 percent)

The majority of spinal cord injuries occur in single males (53 percent)!

Obesity in men and women (any age) puts people at higher risk for spinal injury than normal weight people.
